Tidegate Partners owns and operates four businesses. We are not a fund and we are not looking for an exit — we put capital where it compounds quietly, and then we stay.
It lets water through in one direction and holds it back in the other. It does not dam the estuary and it does not argue with the moon. It simply decides, twice a day, what the tide is allowed to do to the land behind it.
We think about capital the same way. Money, like water, will move regardless. The work is not in generating the force — it is in choosing where the force is let through, and having the patience to hold the rest back until it should be.
Tidegate Partners exists to make that choice once, carefully, and then to operate what it chose. Rising water is only a threat to people who never built the gate.
A gate does not fight the tide. It decides what the tide is permitted to do. We would rather place capital deliberately than move a great deal of it quickly.
Every business on this page is run, not merely held. We are close enough to each one to be accountable for it, and we buy nothing we would not be willing to run ourselves.
We are not assembling a portfolio to sell. The question asked of every asset is whether it still makes sense in ten years — not what it might fetch in three.
